Ok, so I'm tired. but it was a long weekend, productive and stuff. more finishing up moving tomorrow. which is good, since i just bothered to look, and the flight out of here is 8am. which means a very early morning. blech...
what else, i guess you could say shacking up. depends on how specific you want to be. Helen has some book that's like a girl's guide to living in sin. I dono its all so confusing with this labelling and such. I prefer to call it home improvement, and lower rent.
what else... the glazed donut was good.
i don't update on weekends, that calculation was a bit off, but hey, what's 2/7ths wrong between friends. I guess i'll stop worrying.
aparently, the quiz of the day should be:
what is your favourite flavour of starburst?
1. Anyone with extra u's, this isn't England damnit
2. Red
3. yellow
4. green
5. orange
6. some other colour i forgot
7. some color that has 2 flavours, like strawberry and cherry
Aparently I already have an entry called mmm donuts. Sad, since I wanted to call this one that. For your references, its here. If you note that URL, you'll notice that aparently MT limits me to 6 digits worth of entries. I wonder if that's true, or if it just starts getting 7 digit ones, or if its been fixed in a new version? Anyway, I have a long way to go, so I'm not too worried.
Oh right, the donuts, so today was more home improvement, and so jen went out to get some 'breakfast' namely donuts oj and coffee. There's some leftovers sitting on the table, and I'm hugry, so I may have one. Though I have brushed my teeth, such a problem. Anyway
On related news, I'm pretty well moved. There's some things left in the old place, but they'll hopefully get dealt with tomorrow or tuesday. I have band, so its a bit of a rush to get it done tomorrow, but I'd like to clean on Tuesday, so we'll see.
Nothing else too exciting about the move, except that I guess it'll make it easier to do home improvements. And they'll stop being notmyhome improvements. It is rather handy to live somewhere where you decide what color the walls are. And you decide what color the sink is for that matter. Though its a damn lot of work. Today's activity included such mathematical equations as (80+(.75*8))*18.
Also known as the (weight of a bag of concrete+(3/4 of a gallon of water to mix with it (water weighs 8lbs/gallon, if distilled, in case you were wondering))*18 bags of concrete to patch the driveway. For you not inclined to click on the link, that's 1548 lbs. I think my arms will hurt. And the worst part of course, is that it doesn't look like anything, because you're filling in holes, so it just looks smooth now. That and of course once you start, you realize that probably another few bags would fix another problem spot, but alas, its too cold anyway, so we'll work on it in the spring I suppose.
Ok, that donut (well 3 of them, I have to choose) looks quite tasty, we'll see how it goes.
In honor of the linked entry, which had a quiz, here's one, that's relevant.
Donut to eat:
1. None, go to sleep
2. 1/4 of glazed that's left
3. One of 2 cherry filled
4. Vanilla
5. Make that none again, none of them sound good now.
So I was going to discuss today's phone interview, but I'll postpone that. A few lines. I know you can't handle too much suspense.
I was reading the comics, which I always forget to do, but anyway, Get fuzzy has aparently offended Pittsburgh, so in reparations, they're having slogans. Only really interesting because they seem to keep mentioning Ohio.
Ok, so yeah phone interview started off well. After the lengthly discussion on what time it actually is in Indiana, I knew they were supposed to call me at 11. (Also 11 Indiana time, but irrelevant really, unless you want to call tire rack, or Dan Grabski, but don't know why you'd do either) I gave up waiting at 11:10, when I called and the HR person appologized a bunch, and then went and found the one person who was supposed to talk to me. the other one's wife was sick, and they had like 15 kids, and he had to go home. or something. I guess that means either they encourage reproduction or just pay well enough to afford such things.
Anyway, it went well, I don't know if its what i really want to do, and they'll get back to me about a real interview. Since everyone likes keeping track of how long these take, this took about half an hour.
I also got an email back from the Former prof who taught with the hiring manager at Steris, he said he called and left a voice mail, so we'll see how that worked.
Aparently TOWM is stuck/sidetracked in Syracuse, so I dono when he'll be here, but he better hurry up, because the welcome Mat gets yanked on saturday. or at least moved. anyway.
sleep time i says.
So I forgot to mention. One of the few random times I went to a normal grocery store, I found Pomegranate juice. Of course they were out of normal. So I tried mango. Which was odd, it was like $3 for a 15.something ounce bottle, and didn't taste like anything except juice. Very annoying, and I like pom's. I'll have to pick some up at the market on friday. which should be more roomy, since TOWM has decided his visit will be driving from Waltham (suburb of Boston) to Boston, to Rochester to Cleveland. I guess it'll be a late day, so I won't wait with the market day suchness...
anyway, maybe I can find the blueberry pom juice. Suposedly its good. I dono. Ohh, here's a link to Pomland their bottles are rather cool.
Uhh, I feel like I should have more to discuss them Pom juice. But I don't. Sorry. Tomorrow's the phone interview with that company in IN. We'll see how that goes I guess. Anyway, about it from my end. Very exciting stuff I know.
Oh, aparently its official that my power company caused the blackout. Wahoo, good to move.
I think i'll start having more random titles. That way, I can get more random spam comments, because people will misspell words on google, and find the site. Seems like a logical idea. except for the spam comments. damn.
Uhh, yeah so the job interview: Questions I have been asked:
does it look like a good place to work?
Yes, its reasonably new, they have lots of money everyone seems happy
did you get along well with the people you spoke with?
Yes, I had some connections, one was a Case graduate, another taught at Case with a prof I had, so I emailed that prof and prodded him to send a nice email. We'll see how that works.
do they have a job opening that suits you?
Yes, though oddly the most promising job is in Fluid design mostly. But eh, fluids isn't so bad if a computer does all the calculation. In theory. I hope. At least they didn't ask my grade in Fluids.
were there another five hundred people being interviewed?
I have no idea, but the HR guy seemed to indicate they had 3 candidates for each position. However there's two openings in sterilization land, as well as 1 in surgical products.
When will they get back to me?
Didn't say specifically, but reasonably soon in any case, 2-3 weeks was mentioned.
Why was I gone so long?
Because I met with 5 different people for an hour or a half hour each, plus driving time to get up there. Typical engineering type interview from my experience
I think thats it for questions, but feel free to ask any I didn't mention.
Other noteworthy thing: they seem to want to do more interviews before a decision. One manager wanted 3, the HR guy seemed willing to compromise on 2, but we'll see. So really i'm moving along, but don't have any exciting news to mention. Guess I'll just continue along. Have that phone interview on Thursday. Also, it seems more jobs are popping up in my job search, almost 25% of the sites had changes yesterday and 15% today, which is still twice the normal amount. Not that I found many in Engineering and only a few to apply to, but its still promising, in theory.
I was doing my usual job search, and wasn't feeling very motivated, because I'd really just like tomorrow's interview to go well, get an offer and be happy. Its so much simplier then shopping around. Maybe that's why people like Wal*Mart. Ok, it positively is why they like it. At least I'm not too special.
On other news I managed to pick out a shirt and tie for the interview, and totally forgot about mentioning it yesterday. Hopefully they'll work out well. Downside of driving 45 minutes to an interview is stuff can get wrinkled and such. Though the shirt is 100% cotton with that snazzy anti-wrinkle stuff. (Who likes ironing? blech.)
In other news, I remembered one of the more interesting things. I was waiting on the exit ramp, which in itself is interesting. I spend way too much time on interstates these days. Its rather odd, even in Rochester and its land of x90 (390,490,590) I wasn't on interstates all the time. It seems like I am in Cleveland. Anyway. Depending on the day and the whim of certain people the planes landing at the airport (Cleveland Hopkins - CLE) will line up in the dark. So you see the whole line of them slowing flying towards the runway. Its rather neat, and much more interesting then watching the cars drive by. Especially the new Prius, which is quite ugly. Its like an Aztek (which I happen to think is ok, clearly i'm in the minority) with the same glass panel on the vertical part of the hatchback, but uglier. Much, Much uglier. at least in white. Here's a picture. I think: blech
I cracked an egg, then threw it in the garbage can on saturday. Not the shell, the egg. I'm not sure why. I just wasn't thinking. It was pretty funny. I threw the shell afterwards.
I keep pushing my limit on the fire hydrant parking thing. I think I need a job, so I can get another MINI so I'll have 2 extra feet of length. I was like 2.5' away this time, but who knows how enforced the stupid 10' rule is anyway...
As its been raining the fact that the 7's wipers only work on slow, and not intermittant and won't return to the bottom of the windshield unless I time the switch has been getting annoying. I found someone who can do the resoldering I knew the switch needed and replace the parts and such (no sense in junkyard parts, they'll probably be broken anyway) he's a bit north of petaluma too, so rather close to Napa, perhaps he'll respond to my email so I can sort it out during Thanksgiving, though shipping works fine too. I wonder what security would say if I brought through a wiper switch... Ooh, its a bomb! ugh.
I think that's enough excitement for the evening. I'm off to get some sleep, and prep for the Big Interview! keep all available body parts crossed. Its at 1:30, so I'll be back sometime in the early evening and update then probably.
Yeah so I need to figure what to write. I think the worst part of the weekend is I forget what I was going to discuss. Of course I could do the logical thing and update more often, but that'd make no sense, because well, it'd probably have the same problem.
also, since I can't remember anything, I should just make stuff up. but that's probably not a good deal either.
I have band tomorrow, that isn't exciting, but it is somehow noteworthy.
I watched kid notorious, its pretty stupid. I'm not sure I'll watch it again, but bordem presents a strong case, so it might occur in the future. You never know, you know. Or something
Ok, This is just rambling, and I have nothing interesting to mention, so it seems like a good time to sleep.
There's lasgna in the freezer, i should probably eat some. I'll have to keep track of that.
While I was out getting lunch, I got a phonecall from a random company who appiled to in Indiana. They want to phone interview me. But its in West Lafayette, which is 1:15 from Indianapolis. Its where Purdue is located.
Other then, a rather boring day. Though for some reason I'm tired.
It snowed a bit, but mostly flurries, so I don't know how the 7 handles in the snow yet.
Its also pretty windy, but that's not really worth mentioning.
Other then that, not much to report, maybe it'll be an exciting weekend, so sunday will be exciting. Cross your fingers. Ok don't, you still have them crossed for the Steris stuff.
well ok, its only live when you read this as i'm writing it, but its close. does that count for anything?
i was watching food network (i'm sure this is surprising) and besides saying that 70% of Americans start their day with coffee, Marc Summers poured sugar out of one of those diner things, but actually measured it with his teaspoon. who bothers to measure sugar? someone who has coffee once a year? Its not like its difficult to eyeball...
so yeah... i'm trying to think of interesting things to discuss. i'm running out of issues.
i guess its just bound to be a boring day. sad really, but you know. it has to happen sometime.
aparently 20 counties in Georgia can call their onions Vidalia. I wonder if I'm supposed to be impressed at so few, or amazed at so many. go figure, its complicated.
anyway, the rest of the excitement is I finally found some reeses inside-out peanut butter cups. They're quite odd. the peanut butter (on the outside) is chocolate texture, and the chocolate is peanut butter texture. very weird overall, but mostly because of expectations. you know, like why green ketchup is odd, because you expect something else, not because it tastes bad. Though the inside out peanut butter cups do taste different, like putting peanut butter and jelly on the same side or different sides of the bread affects taste, or something.
Two more things: So the power has bliped twice this evening, which is fine, since my computer is on UPS'd power, but the tv isn't. Which you'd think would be fine, but even the less then a second blip is enough to reset the cable box, which then has to reconnect itself, which takes a minute or two. Rather annoying in the middle of a show one is trying to watch. I think I'm spoiled.
On Kill Bill. What does 'glad I didn't waste money on it mean'? You saw it and sneaked into the theater or had someone pay for your ticket/saw a free preview on campus/or haven't bothered to see it? I'm inclined to think the 3rd, but that doesn't make sense, since then how can you comment on it...
Ok, so clearly you learn something in 1 1/2 years of law school (besides how to write disclaimers so you don't get disbarred before you're even a lawyer) I guess its how to search the Ohio Revised Code quickly.
Anyway, the insane thing about that page (since I'm sure all of you looked at it...) 10 feet from a fire hydrant! That's like a 24 foot no parking zone (rounding a hydrant to being an actual 2' wide thing) you can fit 2 MINIs in there. well, almost 2. Aparently you can't park within 1' of another car as well, so no braille parking. I wonder of course how stricly these laws are enforced, but it seems pretty insane, considering the distance that's painted by CA fire hydrants (the only other state I know about) is way shorter then 10.
On the subject of CA, aparently I'm continuing my technique of job interviews rigjt before i go there. Steris called, and after 3 discussions from separate phone calls with the same HR guy, I have an interview next tuesday at 1:30. Rather exciting of course, so as everyone is supposed to do, cross all fingers and other crossable body parts when the time comes. Suposedly I'm interviewing with two different engineering groups as well, which is always good news. The suit is clean, but I need to get a new tie, and probably a new shirt. so looks like a shopping expedition is in order.
on the subject of cleveland, is it like everyone's worth nightmare for flying? The NYTimes article mentions all the new fangled stuff in airports (like a gym in McCarran in Vegas) but everytime people mutter something about airplanes, its always 'so you're on the last flight to Cleveland' or something similar. Having flown out of the cleveland airport, I'm not sure why it has such a distinction. Maybe its pointing out that while its a bit city, and a hub, there's no real reason to come here? oh well.
umm, i dono what else, i think i've exhausted my exhaustion of topics..
trader joes has pretty good frozen fish. and its cheap too. quite handy.
ok thats it, topic's done.
Its been over a month since Walter updated. Interesting isn't it?
I got my haircut. This is the second time I've been going to Shelly, who incidentally cuts jen's hair. Which you would think was odd, but aparently shelly worked at the supercuts (or whatever they're called, i lose track which is which) where jen's dad got her hair cut, so it makes more sense, anyway, she's since moved to more of a 'family salon' type place. anyway, i still have issues on getting her to understand i really don't care what happens to my hair. All of this do you push it forward or backward, do you want product, let me dry it because its cold out.
It really doesn't matter. My hair would freeze in rochester all the time. I don't do anything with it. I don't see why this is difficult to understand, except that I guess I should be happy (besides it starting to gray) that it can look fine with minimal maintence. oh well.
crud, i had other things to mention. Ohh. Anyone know the actual distance you can't park in front of a fire hydrant? i have to parallel park when I go to band, and as my car is smaller then average (though I miss the MINI) I can usually find spaces normal cars can't fit into. Sometimes these relate to fire hydrants, but I'm always worried. Do I need to be just not in front of it? Or not within 1' or what? I realize I could look this up, but that'd be a pain. I'd rather find a job and move to CA where they handily paint the curb, that would solve the discussion. I haven't gotten a ticket yet, even with some close parking, but I doubt 4:30-6 on thursday and 7-8:30 on monday are big enforcement times.
I got an email about new MINI motoring gear. Nothing too exciting, except they have a Trucker hat now. Oy. you can check it out for yourself, (to the tune of $19)
Jen has her dr's appointment tomorrow. hopefully that will go well. I'm hoping the highlight of the day will be good news from the dr., followed closely by the sandwiches from joe's she brings back for lunch.
i think that's enough exciting excitement for an excitable monday. no calls from steris. Just sears, telling me (even though I was there this afternoon after my haircut) that the screw removers I had a raincheck for were in. At 8pm. Nothing like timing. Of course I didn't have the raincheck anyway when I was there, but its still a bit (or a lot) annoying.
so whilst going to tops (tops never stops saving you more) aka a normal grocery store, we wandered down the canned aisle. in my usual technique of wandering up and down each aisle.
Anyway, I noticed canned bread. I was going to get some, as I can't quite remember if I've ever had it. Jen said no. I was shocked, its been a discussion item all weekend, at least whenever canned bread was worth bringing up. For further info, here's a website I found info about: it
Hrm, what else, we did more drywalling, which is always a good thing, progress is going well.
what else. oh wait, I said that. crud. it wasn't that exciting a weekend.
oh, so on showtime (i think) undercover brother was on. It was a rather entertaining movie, and a good way to kill time, in the event you have time to kill. though Its not worth $9 to see. Unlike Kill Bill. Which you all better have seen. I know where you live, so hurry up and see it. Waiting for DVD isn't a good excuse in my view. Though you can see that too, just for the extras and such.
I don't know if there's anything else really worth discussing..
It snowed yesterday, but it was mostly flurries, so I wouldn't count it for anything except statistical notice.
Steris hasn't called me back, so we're still in the no-news dept, lets hope that moves to good news.
that's it for this sundae. MMm, ice cream. Ok that's it.
so there's a google deskbar. Here:
http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html
download it, if you're into windows.
helen got a 2004 sentra 1.8 S in black. its spiffy. i'd put up a pic, but the best one has her license plate on it, and i'd prefer to fuzz that out, which i can't easily do. so i'll deal with it later.
i'll say more tomorrow i think.
so my mouse is continuing to break. of course the best part, its like the first mass produced optical mouse, so while it has lasted 4 years, who knows how long its supposed to last. should I be annoyed? this is very confusing. but of course its not even that broken, it just stops working sometimes. go figure, its certainly annoying.
umm, nothing else really exciting. i have proven old navy jeans are not very resistant to nails, so i think i need to invest in a new pair, as the current work jeans are rather swiss cheesy. (but don't worry, my legs didn't get scratched)
there's an add for the walmart supercenter. they claim they have fresh meat. i dono, but anytime i went in there, it looked more like they had fresh cow or something, but it wasn't edible. i dono why this is relevant though, but i didn't have much else to say.
LeBron's being interviewed on tv. they called him articulate. I think by articulate they mean can string barely cohesive sentances.
anyway.
Helen's car is nice. I'm not sure why, but the black reminds me of my Jetta. Maybe because it was 3 years newer then my 7 and I had it 2 years ago. Do'h! ohh well.
I was reading my Aleve bottle, and it says avoid excessive heat. 104 deg F. Poor Phoenix is going to be annoyed about that I guess. Who decides what excessive is anyway? I think that's debatable. like the fruit vegetable thing. which aparently no one debated.
so did everyone vote? I expect news. I only saw walter was excercizing his something or other. Was that in Floppingers or Pok?
Speaking of walter, I think the new campaign, since I give up on blogs. (I saw a report that said something like 60% of blogs are one day events, and there's a million or so blogs sitting around that haven't been updated in at least 2 months. Smells like the new geocities).
Wait, so the point, so what I think we need to do, is convince Walter that he needs to learn to at least manage a manual transmission. Of course I've tried to work the female angle, but I was just thinking (I'm not sure why, maybe because I was bored in traffic when someone's car died on the exit ramp causing mass confusion, since it was backed up anyway) that all the major males I know know how to drive. Including TOWM and even pepband dave. Who incidentally im'd me today. Aparently a friend of his got transferred (he works for finish line) to pok, so was trying to see if he could get any housing advice, but by the time i offered it, said friend was already pretty well off. anyway. So doesn't that logic make sense? If we're going to attach it to genes, then walter should hurry up and follow in the male mystic of transmissionness. Either that or blog, so i have less to worry about.
according to bravo, Ike renamed the presidental retreat from camp shangri-la to camp david. Its quite funny. More info here : (I mixed it up, the : was the link. hahaha, blog humor. ok I bet that's annoying, feel free to complain)
This is rather long, and while i know I've forgotten some things (Like to capitalize that i) I think its best I go to sleep while I'm still awake. Its always a bit more productive.
Ohh, I called the steris guy back, because it had been a week, I left a message, he didn't call me back, I'll try again tomorrow I think.
so tomorrow's election day. how many of you knew this? how many cared? how many even know where to vote since all of you keep moving. If you know where to vote, and are registered, do you have a clue who to vote for?
ok, enough about voting.
so since everyone's always arguing over what is a fruit and what is a vegetable, (speaking of fruits, (not the opposite of breeders, as funny as that is) i need to eat some more pears before they turn into pear mush) did you know the supreme court decided such a thing? in 1893. Look (Recursive link, tricked you) the quick summary
Botanically speaking, tomatoes are the fruit of a vine, just as are
cucumbers, squashes, beans, and peas. But in the common language of the
people, whether sellers or consumers of provisions, all these are vegetables
which are grown in kitchen gardens, and which, whether eaten cooked or raw,
are, like potatoes, carrots, parsnips, turnips, beets, cauliflower, cabbage, celery,
and lettuce, usually served at dinner in, with, or after the soup, fish, or meats
which constitute the principal part of the repast, and not, like fruits generally, as
dessert.
ok, so with that exciting thing, i'm not sure what else to mention. i need to call the steris guy back, since it'll have been a week tomorrow. so that's an important thing to do. also i need to eat more bananana bread. that's very important.
seems about the extent of it to me...i think its time for some sleep.
Well if CHL's ibook gets fixed (one would think it should happen soon) we can continue to finalize the informal survey of how scheduled halloween is.
in other news, 'pinging' in MT-speak is trackbacks. If you want to discuss something someone else posted on an MT blog, you can ping that specific entry, and it'll then form a trackback link to your entry. A bit convoluted, but pretty simple. Anyway, just like most other things, its an option, so you can allow it or not, when i do allow it, there's the trackback links.
uhrm, what else... i wonder if there will be any news with the Steris guy. I'll have to check on that midweek or so.
what else.. not much i know of.
i need to do dishes. i think the real key of course is just getting a dishwasher.
i think that's it. no one said sunday was a good update day.
aparently helen went out and bought something like a Black '04 Sentra 1.8 S I wonder if it'll take as long to get pictures and such as it did for her ring... we'll have to see, won't we?
