you know what day it is!
ok, enough of that discussion.
i'm not sure what to replace it with.
i ate at long john silvers' today. it was odd, about all i have to say. they have better chicken then fish, and the fries were nasty. but the chicken was ok. though not as good as kfc, so i doubt i'll return.
aparently emeril says you can toast pumpkin seeds in a skillet. seems like a much simplier idea then bothering with the oven. and you can toss them with your wrist, which is always exciting.
what else. walter's a slacker. a certain person says he doesn't give a damn. i guess that means i should stop pointing this out, because its not really worth it.
I never wondered why halloween was scheduled. in fact it makes sense. so much i wonder why it only occurs in certain places. i know halloween curfews are common, but if you can make a non-law law that people follow, that works pretty well. of course in theory this could be government intervention and crap, so maybe republicans would complain. that could be why its not in dutchess county. damn those republicans.
eh, that's it. nothing else to say. i have the weekend to deal with now. and handing out candy of course.
you know, no one else pings besides walter, so if he doesn't give a damn, i'm not going to leave pings available. it clutters anyway.
so i forgot to mention this. when i was in band on monday, i noticed someone editing a paper on their stand. only the odd thing. it was a dot matrix printout. i have no idea where someone gets a dot matrix printer even from outside of random factories and such. When you can get an inkjet printer for the price of a box of prunes (or as they seem to be called now 'dried plums') and you have to pay tuition at a private school, wouldn't you? as exciting as that lame gray look that dot matrix has. with the tractor strips you need to rip off... ahh the memories.
uhrm, there's other stuff i was going to mention.. crud
so i realized why one of my harddrives was acting up. all of the data had been put on a while ago. while i went and reinstalled it, i for some reason put on the 32GB limit jumper. so anytime i went looking for a file past the 32GB limit (its a 40GB drive) it said the drive wasn't that big. go figure this could cause serious issues? don't i feel dumb, not that i really knew why this was occuring until i looked, but still.
so i was trying to get a serious discussion on candy, and why did i even bother? oh well. still didn't get around to buying anything yet, so any late suggestions are available. though i must admit, it did collect a good amount of beeps, so that's positive.
aparently cleveland schedules halloween. who knew? there's an official time for trick-o-treating and everything. and if it occurs on an annoying day, it gets moved to a convienent time. this can't be the only city that does this. or is it just that fishkill is the only city that doesn't? oh wait, fishkill is a town. (and a village) well whatever i still think its odd.
aparently OS X 10.3 has built in automatic file-defragging. handy stuff, you access a file, and if its fragged (and under 20 megs) it gets moved. not a bad idea. now if only i had $130 to spend on 10.3.
no one commented on the super big engine. i guess prunes are more exciting.
i believe that its for me. time to sleep a smidge. or 20.
walter's still a slacker, i expect a dr.'s note to say he was sick.
I wonder if you can use that as a adverb. Who knows?
So the exciting news of the day is that I got a call from Steris who happens to be in Mentor (where the Cleveland MINI dealer is) I chatted with the HR guy for a while, and he seemed interested, said he'd get back to me in a week or so, after he checked with hiring managers and such.
It also confirmed my suspicion that finding a job is a stupid activity. He was referencing a July 27th cover letter. Aparently he just got hired, so whoever was there before him, and the position open for however long, stuff was just piling up. Great. highly my fault. anyway, we'll see how this goes.
Certainly much better then random people calling trying to get me to sell insurance for a living.
Walter is a slacker, but aparently he's sick. so we should feel sorry for him, and hopefully he'll be better soon. so then he can update with all the sick details. no, details of being sick, not sick stuff. you know what i mean.
sorry about the entries being messed up yesterday. i updated at odd times and needed to adjust them today to keep everything on its own day. it just works better that way. unless you're too gung ho and update several times a day.
In the event you ever wondered how big a piston engine could get: Here Rather an odd idea. And as I've said elsewhere, you could make a few Yachts with the metal saved if it was a rotary, though I don't know of any 2 stroke rotary diesels, but whatever.
So need to go shopping for halloween candy soon (you know, sometime before friday at lunch). Suggestions? (your advice could be useful, if its intended to be)
1) Snickers/Milky Way/3 Musketeers variety
2) Raisin boxes
3) something random that is cheap
4) Mary Janes. Because you know, candy that rips your baby teeth out serves a purpose, then you get tooth fairy money
5) Individual candy corn. (Like one Kernel, wrapped of course)
Anyone preparing for the Giant Pumpkin? Just checking.
I had things to mention. I forgot them as usual.
Pepband Adam pointed out 'for a big guy I like small cars' I meant to mention this a while ago, but besides the obvious 'duhh' why again would I need a large car? Not like I need to carry around much stuff often.
verizon is touting their new push to talk phones. great as if the nextel people bleeping in the supermarket weren't annoying enough. Just talk on your damn phone or don't. you don't need to use it like a lame CB. But maybe I'm grumpy because the stupid roger beep annoys the living fuck out of me.
my mouse stinks. either that or my computer. in any event, it gets bored and freezes. and then i need to unplug it. i think i'll have to buy a ps2 mouse and see if that works, maybe its just a usb thing. but i don't want to spend $40 on a new intellimouse if i don't have to.. though it is like 4 years old.
anyway, time for sleep.
walter's a total slacker btw.
So i was watching queer eye, since I handily have Bravo now. In horribly embarrasing fashion, the subject attempted to make a mint julep. He knew it was supposed to be sugar, mint and boubon, but his girlfriend (who he was making it for) muttered something about it being clear.
he for whatever reason paid attention to her, and used gin instead of bourbon. Then he decided to fix it, by throwing in some cointreau. Egad.
umm, I'm pondering getting an accessory for everyone's (who has seen it) favourite vacuum tube oscilloscope, something with nixie tubes. I think this continues my admiration of analog electronics from the 60's. Somehow with everything and its brother being digital (which is good for DVDs + HDTV I'll admit) there's more of an appeal in numbers being made out of glowing gas. Yes, I'll link to something explaning nixie tubes because its not like I knew what they were before this evening. Here Pictures. The tubes themselves were displays that pre-dated the 7 segment LED. Think of a vacuum tube (for those of you who have seen one) with a bunch of glowing numbers inside stacked in front of one another. So you activate one cathode (number) and it glows. Neat isn't it? (And obvious why engineering-wise an LED is mucho bettero, especially since the unlit numbers get in the way of the lit one)
Btw, another site says that that site has cheap crappy clocks, so just look there for pictures.
uhrm, besides the nixies (aparently there are nixie lamps in Monsters Inc.) nothing else exciting really. i know its highly boring, but you can't expect too much these days.
must get to sleep now.
well aparently none of you have the least bit of suggestions for the halloween party issue. hrmph.
i leave a pile of sunflower seed shells at your doorstep.
why can no one spell advice? it rhymes with rice, suffice, nice, but not anything with ise, (surmise is the only thing i can think of) but people continually spell it advise. grr.
umm, i found the kill bill soundtrack. or it was found for me at target, after i managed to look through the entire K section and not find it. its happily sitting on slupbook, i'll transfer it to slupod tomorrow.
umm, nothing else interesting to report. i need to do dishes. blech.
so the first order of business, which i forgot yesterday, is i got invited to a party this weekend, which happens to be a halloween party. rather annoying, since i need a costume. suggestions? please? i'm not feeling creative.
what else... i dono.
so i'm tired. but i'm not sure why. not like i did much today.
sur la table opens next to trader joes tomorrow! sounds like an opportunity to go check out any good sales! the last time I think I was at one was in LA, when they had one of those 'please carry your dog in the store'
a semi carrying frozen food tripped over NE of here. What does the news show? A broken window on the cab, with a squished box of pringles. (no major injuries to report). Ahh local news.
Seems like nothing else exciting in my view. time for sleep.
aparently baseball is more interesting then updating, as walter's been busy doing that.
yeah, so i'm slacking, but its not like mr. soyka has updated this eon. anyway... i was busy. spent the weekend futzing with wiring, which i think everyone knew.
so dinner was roast sssshicken, which was good, but as there's not much exciting in the dark meat arena, i nibbled a bit and then decided to make stock. we'll see how it comes out once it finishes cooling.
uhrm, i dono what else to discuss. it hasn't been a very exciting time.
went to trader joe's yesterday, i dono if that got mentioned, but at least now fiji is stocked up a bit.
its interesting to move around the country. i always knew (as everyone does) that heinz has 58 varities. but by most accounts around NY all you can get is ketchup, and more recently their odd organic ketchup which is new, so probably doesn't count anyway. i guess being closer to pittsburgh as well as in different areas, there's all sorts of odd things. the one that's actually good (i haven't tried the others so i can't verify, but it'd seem lame to try and have all 57) is their horseradish sauce. this is relevant due to the leftover rib roast which i made into a sandwich and put some of the sauce on it. quite good, and not even unhealthy, since its mostly horseradish.
speaking of which, even though they had durians (which looked not too great, and i dono how to shop for one anyway) at the asian market, they didn't have any fresh wasabi. i think they're clearly biased towards chinese stuff and some korean, except of course they have a zillion japanese candies. go figure. i'll need to find some wasabi elsewhere.
uhrm, nothing else very interesting, i should go check on the stock. i figure this is a good way to offset the cost of the sssshicken, because then i don't need to spend a buck or two on tetrapak's of stock.
sounds like its time for bed, i've written a lot, even though its not making up for the weekend, but eh, whatever. its almost wednesday, i'm just early for next week. some random ad for a video game just quoted rom 'playboy magazine says' its backyard wrestling, in the event you were wondering, i just paid more attention. splendid idea. i should not watch the howard stern show.
i'm not sure why that's the topic, but you know, you need to get creative sometimes.
on the subject of creativity google now does reverse phone lookups. i typed in a number on a whim, and it worked. you can try it. my actual phone # doesn't work, but it probably got delisted when i switched to vonage. shucks.
i bothered to update slupbook today, so now i can use the ipod with it. novel i know. maybe i'll get bored and see if there's anytime from the iTunes store i want. i don't really think so, and i shouldn't spend money on it, but you never know.
according to some random guy, the average ear of corn has 640 kernels, and a random chip has 3 to 4 kernels. i dono why you need to know this, but i bet you weren't watching unwrapped, so you wouldn't have seen it.
so hrm, i think the redsox will probably win. someone had to lose, (besides the cubs) i'll have to see when i wakeup, sorry, not worth staying up to watch, but you probably already knew my view on that.
ok. enough excitement for the weekend i think. time to go to sleep?
any news on creative apple uses? they're in season you know.
oh, so the crappy but friendly tuba player who sits next to me in band often lives on a vinyard. i knew this last year, but aparently he's bringing people from cwru home (near niagara) because they're intrigued. i asked if they had harvested yet, he said something like 'no, but i'm not sure with the bad weather they'll be up to standards' so i said, well is there some sort of brand or something. he said yeah.
Welchs.
i guess someone needs to grow juice grapes... the forgotten grape use. juice.
So aparently cadillac succeeded on making a car that doesn't suck totally: http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadtests/firstdrive/100615/article.html?tid=edmunds.h..reviews..4.* we'll have to see how pimped out it gets by the MTV cribs crowd.
Jaime Oliver is poaching Filet Mignons. Sure it may be in red wine and such, but he's boiling beef. Aparently those cooky brits still like boiling. (or simmering, whatever).
Uhrm, i know there were other things to mention.
aparently chalupas exist outside of taco bell. we ate at el rincon, (don't ask me what a rincon is, its irrelevant) and they had chalupa's on the menu. it wasn't bad. toasted corn tortilla with guac and some beans. rather different from taco bell's though, but i'll get over it, not like that's a bad thing.
helen needs to go back to phoenix. clearly its the best technique for getting walter to update.
i knew there was other things i was going to mention. oh well.
sorry i didn't get to the acronyms dictonary, it'll have to be postponed a bit, i got busy fixing stuff and never even grocery shopped. i know, it was a tough day.
so i found a few more jobs to apply to today. it was exciting.
uhrm, i'm not sure what else is exciting to mention..
aparently a whitecastle bun takes 13 minutes to cook. thank you unwrapped.
so cvs has domestic violence mints. relatively good idea, though they look suspiciously like the target mints. the odd part, they're on sale! maybe its because the browns won, and everyone gave up on the indians or something so violence is down, but you know its just not right.
speaking of just not right, chl said i should make a list of acronyms and such. so you can look for that tomorrow i think, i ran out of time today.
gummi sharks are nasty. they don't taste really bad, they just taste plasticy and smell like non-descript chemicals. not my ideal description of a food. besides, the dorsal fins are rounded off, they're not even the right shape.
ok, nothing else to say it seems.
well i know several things that i forgot to mention, which i guess are remotely amusing, but it seems i can never remember everything...
anyway, everyone should see kill bill. its wonderful, albeit a bit gorey, but its comic gore, like umm, a horror movie or something. but not like an actual horror movie, because i can't stand them.
i had band today. it was fun, and the best part, on the way back, i could go directly from 176 to 480. this is exciting, as the exit ramp has been closed since i moved here. speeds up the trip nicely to not have to putter through traffic lights for an extra 3 miles.
aparently walter updates while rendering. anyone need any rendering done?
chl seems too busy to see kill bill. he says he'll have time in november.. i guess i can't really be sympathetic, as i'm not exactly busy.
aparently, even though we all know and grew up with fishkill farms, (or whatever its called now, irrelevant) stickle/brian/whatever he's called this week has allegiences other places. I think that's enough about that.
i think i should be happy i don't have people visiting me all the time, but maybe it'd be a bit nicer to live somewhere not far away from everyone. or have a job, so i knew other people. oh well. such theory, makes it sound easy.
I would like to point out the 'mac talk hierarchy' had me first, then walter (with the rest of his family somewhere in the middle, but we never keep track of them, so who cares) then TOM and only very recently chris, clearly he's almost too late to the game. I mean, he missed all the OS X speculation! he just actually got a computer with it. such a scam. (well except for TOWM and Chl who clearly have me beat, but Chl would win, as he's older. I think. maybe he grew up with a turtle instead of an Apple II, i never asked too much when he got his first computer)
well, ok i believe that's all i really have to mention for the moment, but i may think of some other things, so we'll see. i have a few applications to spend time on and send out so someone can ignore them.
Aparently tomorrow's a holiday. for those of us that don't do much. this isn't quite news. I'm not even really sure why Helen has it off, but aparently she does.
jen things its amusing british people still measure themselves in Stone. for those of you too lazy to drag that to your google toolbar, that's 14lbs. go figure.
hrm, what else. i dono, this wasn't a very exciting weekend. some laundry got done. some lamb got eaten, that's all.
i think i guess i should mention other things, but i'm not really sure, because i can't think of anything. maybe i should update more on the weekend, so i'd have things to mention?
oh, talking about Stickle as Brian is confusing. Brian's supposed to be Davidson. Not to mention Amber not being Gill.
maybe we should start referring to people by the last 4 digits of their SS #.. that'd limit you to 10,000 friends, though probably a few less allowing for repeats.
well, so enough excitement i guess. time for sleep.
one more item, Noticed this article in the Times on relegion in Europe. Rather interesting, especially the 1 in 20 Europeans goes to church ocne a week, vs 1 in 3 Americans. Go figure. And if the NYT link is annoying because it requires registration, tell me, and i'll dig out the google link, or just register.
walter updated twice in a row! this is amazing. ground breaking even. very thrilling..
jen seems offended i accidently said she was related to the yankees. i guess i just had not enough brain power at the time. oops. indians.
ahh, well its good there's lots of insulting names for a baseball team. that's a real positive sign.
umm, i'm not sure what i'll do tomorrow. as jen seems to be planning on going to work, i'll have to figure out how to entertain myself for the day. well at least until i go to the market. it could be quite a challenging day, though i'm not hugely worried.
umm, so what else it was a pretty boring day i guess.
we stopped by starbucks twice, but never went in. i guess i just didn't have any urges today. it was't hot enough for a frap, and not cold enough for something hot. very odd.
what else... I'd just like to point out as cool as a Disney wedding would be, I'm not sure its worth many more months of worrying and arguing with all the families, regardless of the finances involved. Or maybe its just me, I was never a big fan of bringing together family intentionally. It just doesn't spell good party for me.
to show how exciting life in cleveland is, they're busy complaining about the supersize election signs in some dumb local town. Aparently they can't be bigger then 6 square feet. but the key is who really cares? fortunately the news station measured them!
ok, enough excitement time for sleep...
So Jen may mention this, but I'm doing it first, we saw a guy in a member's only jacket on a crotch rocket. Who in their right mind would do that? Just mind boggling.
We have extra ravioli filling left over, but of course making more ravioli wouldn't be a great idea (and would need to wait until friday, to get more pasta) unless they got immeditely frozen. any suggestions? polenta? (its mushroom and ricotta filling, but that's sorta irrelevant)
umm, crap, i keep forgetting what i'm going to say.
So aparently its the playoffs, not being a big baseball fan, and the Mets not really being involved, I'll just point out the amusement of Helen rooting for the Yankees, Sarah rooting for the Red Sox, and Jen being mildly annoyed the Yankees are out, and TOWM perhaps caring if you asked him and he was bored that the Twins are out of the series. I guess its just an American League world. Of course that doesn't make sense why I like an NL team, but whatever.
Moral: try not to fight amongst yourselves, someone's got to lose (or already lost aka Indians and Twinks) (Why is Twink a nickname? its even longer. I understand Tribe for the Indians, its got less syllables. Do people really like Twinkies in MN? I still haven't been there..)
Speaking of which, no one mentioned anything about the superific map and listing of places I've been, I guess its just there, so not worth mentioning?
Walter's seems to be under the impression (ahem, thanks to jen) that adding a feature to a phone is a bad idea. With that logic, why does he drive a car with airbags? (and I think it has Anti-lock brakes..) adding features isn't always bad if you want them! besides, I think Motorola makes reasonably durable phones. Mine was the first of the popular V series thing, and besides it breaking 15 antennae its pretty damn durable, even though it does a bunch of things.
Ok, this long, though at least I've gotten the opportunity to Ping Walter.
The point of Blogging is its pull, not push. If someone really wants it to be push, they can get the RSS feed, otherwise it seems to be like an awful christmas yearly mailing (I'm glad no one in my family does that, but I vaguely know what it'd be like)
ack, its almost midnight, must finish this before then, or the days will be all screwey.
i recalled two things i was going to write about yesterday.
my new shoes are very difficult to drive in. i hit both the gas and brake pedals and the clutch and dead pedal. rather annoying, and because i have to have the seatback for the back seats down, I can't put the seat as far back, so it messes everything up.
speaking of that, the concert went well, though i think our next one will be better, just because the music will be cooler.
the other thing i was thinking of i seem to have just forgotten. sad.
aparently you can use scroll lock in excel. jen knew this. i had no idea. if you use it, you can then use the arrow keys to scroll the sheet without moving the active cell. rather useful. but you can't do it in word. go figure, so much for a uniform office suite.
umm, not much else to report around here, i think its time for sleep. because you know, schwartzenegger winning is scary enough. handy i don't live in CA at the moment. and if i move there, well i didn't vote for him.
the woman next to me was eating a pudding cup in her minivan. well at least she was trying, she was having issues opening it, and i pulled away to avoid her running into me and spilling pudding on my car.
so not anything else really exciting today, i actually had other things to mention but i seem to have majorlly forgotten them. like totally! like. like? one more like?
i need to think of something to snack on before bed, but i'm rather tired, so i should do that quickly.
walter hasn';t updated. by the nag equation i think we should get to nagging. either that or send helen across the country, aparently that causes him to post.
not much else to say, maybe if i feel enlightened i'll put something up midday.. maybe.
i'm tired. i stayed up to watch the press your luck scandal show on game show network. aparently while they can normally squeeze a show into half an hour, or even an hour to give someone a million, it took them two hours to discuss how one person could scam 110,000 or so. but it still was interesting, especially since until jen mentioned it, i didn't even know such a scandal existed. (of course you would need to know what press your luck was, but that's a different issue) i guess since i was barely 4, i couldn't be expected to know...
aparently the episodes were only played once (the normal 1/2 show took an hour) until this special now...
the best part is when they ask michael from ohio what he's going to do, and he says invest in real estate. peter asks him 'out here' he says 'no, i wouldn't invest out here at all' of course we all know real estate in 1984 in SoCal is a much better investment then in OH, oh well, clearly he's not the best investor, but i guess he has enough money to not care.
aparently the new version of press your luck runs on a 200mhz pc. of course they say its truly random.. ha, we all know computers aren't random, who's going to crack it now?
so i had a burrito bol today, its just not the same as a normal burrito. i don't think its worth saving the extra calories, i'd just rather eat less burrito and still get the tortilla. (in the event anyone cares).
uhrm, trader joe's is open in cleveland, well an eastern suburb, but same difference, so this is good news! they officially open later in the month, but nothing like getting there when the shopping carts are so new they actually steer correctly.
hrm, not much else to report, i have my concert tomorrow, so hopefully the tuxedo will be spiffy. though i can't seem to find my tie. i'll have to dig that up, but on the upside, i can wear the shoes i got in CA.
So I went to fiesta taco. It was like a more mexican version of taco bell, just generally nasty. not exactly my ideal food. i went to quiznos afterwards, and got some real food.
while i was at quiznos the guy in line next to me stopped talking on his cell phone to say he liked my glasses, and where did i get them. I thought and said umm, NY. I swear he things I bought them on 5th avenue (but not in a robin's egg blue box) somehow he'd probably be depressed to know I got them in hopewell.
uhh, what else, helen aparently wanted to go swimming in phoenix, but didn't have time. I'm not sure why you'd want to go swimming in a desert, but I'll just claim this was supposed to be a swimming pool. (Clearly a swimming pool in phoenix in 90+ degree heat is better then one in NY..)
walter updated again! very exciting, but i missed it for a few hours, i need to bother to use the RSS feed I think, but last time I tried RSS it was a rather annoying pain.
One of the dr's on ER brought an iPod to the congo... but its the old version... I wonder how much in advance they shoot these shows..
ok enough excitement for one evening, off to bed.
I haven't heard a damn thing from Medtronic, its been a week since they told me 'we'll stick you in the pile' but we'll see. nothing good has shown up on their website either, so maybe they're not lying. perhaps i'll try calling tomorrow.
i think everyone's just too busy these days. I vote for more people getting unemployed.
Columbia is advertising for interns for Bill Clinton's office, I'm trying to convince CHL this could be an opportunity of a lifetime to network (even if its unpaid) but he says he's too busy, someone else should nag him, I think I'm overnagging...
uhh, we had aladdins for dinner. its always good to get some veggies. especially since most of the other places around here have generally stale salads, a mostly vegeterian place has much better green leafy things.
yay green leafy things, now back to our regularly scheduled white things, like rice, since I make way better rice then they do.
umm i had peanut butter and swedish cranberry cracker sandwiches when i was hungry this afternoon. its a bit odd to eat baby cranberries, and my crackers tasted a bit like thanksgiving, but all in the pb&j vein... In the event you want to try this, I got it at cost plus world market, only $2.99 for 370grams! (Jif was the peanut butter, in the event you're especially nosy)
Uhh, running out of things to say, i guess helen's not back yet, makes it kinda boring, perhaps i should have paid more attention to what her schedule was before she left.. next time.
